About Joanna:

Joanna D. Block is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family therapist in the states of Kansas and Missouri and is a Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor in the state of Kansas. Joanna enjoys working with individuals, young adults, couples and families, specializing in working with trauma, mood disorders (depression, anxiety), addictions, and relational difficulties.

 

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology form MidAmerica Nazarene University, Joanna obtained her Masters in Family Therapy from Friends University. Joanna is Level Two trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), is certified in Prepare and Enrich, has completed 150 hours of Play Therapy Training, and has completed the Parent Management Training of Oregon, totaling over 300 hours. Joanna continues to enjoy participating in many other trainings, learning new techniques, advancing and sharpening her skills. 

 

Joanna has enjoyed working at a variety of settings:  inpatient mental health, child welfare, and leading intensive outpatient group therapy for dual diagnosis and chemical dependency. These different opportunities have given Joanna an unique work experiences as well as a different and understand of a variety of situations and difficulties.

 

Joanna approaches life with great zeal, and is passionate about working with others to find their own zest and hope in life. Using a variety to tools, Joanna pulls from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Bowenian, Gottman, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT),  and Attachment Theory. 

Understanding that we all go through periods in our lives in which we need additional support, Joanna strives to make therapy affordable and offers convenient, flexible hours, having availability in the mornings, afternoons as well as early evening. Although she cannot provide crisis support to non-clients, Joanna is available via phone all days.
